Our Projects
The South African education system is highly unequal. Many families cannot afford to send their children to good schools. A lack of infrastructure, overcrowded and dilapidated classrooms, and low-quality teaching in the poorest communities perpetuate student failure and inequality. The right to a decent education for every child in South Africa is precluded by endemic failings in the educational system that will impact the future of millions of young students for many years, as well as generations to come. And, for those who can make it at the university, the gap between those who could afford good schools and those who could not, is a source of frustration, lack of self-confidence and often ends with the student dropping the studies.
However, with your help and with the collaboration with the organisation IkamvaYouth, as well as with the educational support from Accenture, the foundation aims at supporting talented young high school females from disadvantaged areas to contribute to their social and educational progress, to their academic success and to the pursuing and realisation of their aspirations. IkamvaYouth is a national organisation offering advanced learning opportunities for those who cannot afford. In the area around Pretoria, at the Mamelodi campus, qualified lecturers provide classes on science and technology disciplines, as well as courses, workshops, career guidance and tutoring to students in high school. In this way, IkamvaYouth contributes to making huge strides towards enhancing the right to quality education for all.
Other supporting partners are the Mary Potter Oncology Center of Pretoria, with initiatives on cancer prevention, and Mrs. South AfricaTM, the leading pageant for married women in South Africa, which will facilitate meetings with students on self-awareness and emancipation.
